Main goals
- Short term: To determine the density of the lynx population in the central part of Latvia, using non-invasive monitoring methods.
- Long term: (1) Implementation of a monitoring system for the lynx in Latvia, providing internationally comparable data for further scientifically based protection and management of the species on the scale of the Baltic population; (2) Rising public awareness of the size and distribution of the lynx population in Latvia, while improving understanding of the behavior and ecology of the species.
Main tasks
- Preparation for field research – selection of sites for trail cameras and hair traps, coordination of activity plan with project contractors.
- Set up and regular inspection of trail cameras and hair traps for three months in 2023 and 2024.
- Evaluation and processing of trail camera data.
- Evaluation report on non-invasive monitoring results.
