The aim of the study is to develop a scientific basis for the model of their cultivation in fertile forest ecosystems on the basis of the study of the economic, genetic and phytopathological aspects of spruce forests of the same age, to prepare the basis for changes in regulatory acts for the practical application of the model.

The activities of study are:

  1. Development of a model for growing spruce forests of the same age.
  2. Assessment of the influence of genetic factors on the growth and vitality of single-aged spruce forests.
  3. Phytopathological risks in single-aged spruce forests.
  4. Experimental planting in a peatland after felling an array of spruces of the same age.

The knowledge gained as part of the research is summarized in the monograph Even-aged Spruce Stands in Latvia (2019, in Latvian with English summary)
