Study supported by the Forest Development Fund (agreement No. 23-00-S0MF01000003)
In order to achieve the EU regulation of the European Parliament and the Council of 30 May 2018 No. 2018/841 on the inclusion of greenhouse gas emissions and removals from land use, land use change and forestry in the climate and energy policy framework for the period up to 2030 – thereby amending EU Regulation No. 525/2013 and decision No. 529/2013/EU, it is important to clarify in detail the potential contribution of each reporting category to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) and increasing capture. In the context of the regulation, the accurate accounting of wood products in the LULUCF sector can make a significant contribution and contribution to the indicators of GHG sequestration.
The aim of the Study is to analyze the flow of wood products produced in Latvia (HWP – harvested wood products– in accordance with the terminology used in EU Regulation No. 2028/841), to provide an assessment of the methodological approaches used in the calculations and a comparison with methodologies used in international practice.
