The 5th ESP Europe Conference Ecosystem Services: One Planet, One Health, which an in-person participated scientists of LSFRI "Silava" Zane Lībiete, Arta Bārdule, Agita Treimane, Linda Gerra-Inohosa and Edgars Jūrmalis, took place in Wageningen (Netherlands), on November 18–22, 2024.
The focus of ESP Europe Conference wase on two thematic streams: Ecosystem services and health, and Ecosystem services and conditions for transformative change.
Scientists of LSFRI "Silava" presented the latest results of the research projects, which are carried out by LSFRI "Silava":
- ALFAwetlands – Wetland restoration for the future,
- Forest roads as multifunctional ecosystems: biodiversity, ecosystem services and non-services,
- The impact of forest management on forest and related ecosystem services, and
- Impact on the environment and management challenges in forest areas important for recreation in Latvia.
Research assistant Agita Treimane presented "Pursuing Multiple Goals in Forestry: Does Commercial Thinning Decrease Bilberry Cover and Yield?".
Senior researcher Arta Bārdule presented "Ecosystem services provided by peatlands in hemiboreal landscape".
Researcher Linda Gerra-Inohosa presented the first results of the Latvian Science Council funded project Forest roads as multifunctional ecosystems: biodiversity, ecosystem services and non-services in poster-presentation "Towards better management of human altered – ecosystems: forest roads as providers of ecosystem (dis)services in Latvia".
Research assistant Edgars Jūrmalis gave insight in the first results of the Latvian Science Council funded project Impact on the environment and management challenges in forest areas important for recreation in Latvia in presentation "Forest, park or nature conservation area? Engaging stakeholders in studying forest recreation".
