Study supported by the Forest Development Fund (agreement No. 24-00-S0MF01-000005)
In recent years, there has been more and more active talk about the services provided by the forest as an ecosystem to society. In Europe, a system of so-called for the evaluation and inclusion of ecosystem services in the system of economic accounts. In Latvia, such a system was created within the framework of the 2010 project "Development of integrated environmental and forest economic accounts in Latvia". The research was carried out by the Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Institute, involving researchers from other scientific institutions. Since then, both the account system and the knowledge about ecosystem services have changed significantly. The EU's policy regarding nature protection (restoration) and forest management has also changed, adopting a series of regulations, etc. regulatory act.
The aim of the Study is to clarify the methodology and obtain information about the contribution of non-wood forest products and services to the national economy of Latvia.
As a result of the study, non-wood forest products and service contribution to the national economy of Latvia were evaluated. Among the non-wooden products, the most important are mushrooms (capsules) and wild berries (blueberries), hunting products. It was established that the research between 2010 and 2024 was carried out in 2017. The methodology prepared in 2011 was evaluated, evaluating data availability and information sources. Prepared proposals for changes to the methodology developed in 2011.
