The Minister of Agriculture Didzis Šmits visited the Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava" to get experienced with the work of Latvian forestry and forest science. During the visit, the Minister of Agriculture met the administrative personal of the Institute, members of Scientific Council and leading scientists, as well as visited the scientific laboratories of Institute.
During the visit, Minister of Agriculture insisted the importance of the forest sector in the Latvian national economy and the importance of science in the development of the forest sector.
Jurģis Jansons, Director of LSFRI "Silava", introduced the Minister with the work, future goals and challenges of the Institute, Senior researchers Andis Lazdiņš, Āris Jansons, Agnis Šmits, Dainis Ruņģis, Mārtiņš Zeps, Tālis Gaitnieks and Guntars Šņepsts introduced Minister of Agriculture on the Institute’s research areas.
Minister of Agriculture expressed the contentment for the Institute's work: LSFRI "Silava" is the good sample for others to get to learn. The Minister also acknowledged the important role of forest sector in the national economy of Latvia.
