The forum of experts "Green transformation: Policy, forest sector and innovations in the digital age" took place on April 10, bringing together policymakers, civil servants, entrepreneurs, scientists, as well as representatives from universities and non-governmental organizations. The forum focused on how the forestry sector can balance the achievement of climate and sustainability goals with the need for economic growth, as well as on the use of the latest technologies to support green objectives and improve efficiency.

Andis Lazdiņš, senior researcher of LSFRI 'Silava', delivered the opening presentation "Climate policy solutions for the land sector – where science meets myths".

The forum discussions were organized in three thematic areas:

  • Competitiveness – how to avoid losing either economic growth or sustainability goals;
  • Use of wood products instead of fossil-based materials. The substitution effect as an important but under-recognized factor in climate policy. The researcher of LSFRI 'Silava' Aldis Butlers participated in this discussion;
  • Digital transformation in the forest sector – the tool for synergy or a multiplier of bureaucracy?

The forum was organized by the association "Latvian Formula 2050" and the LMT Group in cooperation with the Latvian Wood Industry Federation, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Climate and Energy, SC 'Latvian State Forests', and SC 'Latvijas Finieris'.
