Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava" hosted ten students from different schools across Latvia as part of the Day of Shadows on April 1, giving them the opportunity to step into the role of researchers and explore the diversity of forestry science.
The students participated in hands-on activities across various fields — from DNA analysis and forest disease diagnostics to wildlife sample analysis and fieldwork in forest environments. They also learned tree measurement techniques, sample collection methods, and laboratory basics, as well as gained insight into substrate development and seed germination studies.
The Day of Shadows provided an opportunity to better understand the daily work of scientists and the wide range of research directions at "Silava" related to sustainable forest resource management.
