On June 4, The General Assembly of the Latvian Academy of Agricultural and Forest Sciences (LAAFS) was held, during which the Academy's Presidium and division heads were elected, along with new full, foreign and honorary members.
Dagnija Lazdiņa, Senior researcher at the Latvian State Forest Research Institute 'Silava', was elected in the position of Head of the Division of Forest Sciences of LAAFS, while the Institute's Senior researcher Endijs Bāders was elected as a full member of LAAFS.
The Division of Forest Sciences previously was headed by Senior researcher Tālis Gaitnieks, who served in this position for almost ten years, continuing the work initiated by Senior researcher and Doctor Habilitatus in Forest Sciences Pēteris Zālītis. We would like to express our gratitude to Tālis Gaitnieks for his long-standing contribution to the development of the Division of Forest Sciences, the advancement of scientific thought, and the representation of the interests of the forestry sector.
The election of Dagnija Lazdiņa as Head of the Division of Forest Sciences and Endijs Bāders as a full member of LAAFS demonstrates the significant contribution of our researchers to the development of forest science in Latvia and the Institute's leading role in addressing current challenges facing the forestry sector.
