Scientists of LSFRI "Silava" visited the University of Transylvania in Brasov (Romania), where they exchanged their experience in the studies of old-growth forests and in defining these forests in accordance with the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 in the seminar "Sustainable forest management: old-growth forests" at the end of April.
Our scientists presentations at the seminar:
- Āris Jansons: Climate-smart forest management: Latvia (overview of the Latvian forest sector and the activities of LSFRI "Silava");
- Laura Ķēniņa: Old-growth forest research in Latvia (overview of the research carried out in Latvia and the data obtained on old-growth forest stands);
- Valters Samariks: Forest carbon in Latvia: focus on soils (overview of "Silava's" studies and data on soil carbon stocks, including changes due to land reclamation, as well as data on carbon stocks of small roots and litter biomass);
- Daiga Zute: Many aspects of old-growth forests (describing the debate in Latvia on the definition of old-growth forests under the EU Biodiversity Strategy).
“Silava's" scientists had the opportunity to visit the Brasov urban forest and the UNESCO Carpathian ancient and primeval beech forest "Codrul secular Șinca".
