Study supported by the Forest Development Fund (agreement No. 22-00-S0MF01-000003)
In 2021, the European Commission came up with a proposal for achieving a more ambitious climate goal at the level of the European Union. In the context of the proposal, possible scenarios for the development of the land use, land use change and forestry (ZIZIMM) sector have been developed. In order to evaluate the choice of the most suitable solution for Latvia, it is necessary to perform a calculation of the socioeconomic impact of each scenario. The client of the study has defined that this study should use the studies supported by the Forest Development Fund in 2021 "Evaluation of the most suitable forestry development scenario for Latvia in the revision of the possible European-level land use, land use change and greenhouse gas emission and capture accounting regulation of the forestry sector" and "Long-term changes in Latvia's forest resources under the influence of the European green deal" defined scenarios and obtained results.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the socio-economic impact of various alternatives to the European Green Deal for the Latvian forest industry.
Tasks of the study:
- To evaluate the impact of various alternatives of the European Green Deal on the availability of wood and its impact on changes in the number of people employed in the Latvian forest industry.
- To evaluate the impact of different alternatives of the European green deal on changes in the net present value of Latvian forests.
- To evaluate the impact of different European Green Deal alternatives on Latvian forest ecosystem services.
