LSFRI "Silava" realises the National Forest Monitoring according with The Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers, No. 238 and Medium-term Development Strategy of LSFRI "Silava"

Five activities of National forest monitoring are:

  1. Statistical inventory of forest resources. Each sample plot surveying once every five years, in performing re-measuring of wood resources in sample plots (measurements of average high of all trees, measurements of the height of sample trees, measuring of static mortality rate (deadwood)) according Methodology of National forest monitoring. Assessment the types of land use.
  2. First (I) level forest monitoring. Measuring of the condition of tree crowns once every year in 115 sample plots according with approbate methodology of The International Cooperative Program on Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests (ICP Forests).
  3. Second (II) level forest monitoring. Carrying out nine sub- programs of the Second level ICP forest monitoring in the sample plot in Jelgava forest district of Forest research station in Region of Valgunde according with Methodology of National forest monitoring.
  4. Forestry biotic risk factor monitoring.
  5. Forest biodiversity monitoring.
