The International Boreal Forest Research Association (IBFRA) Conference 2026 was held in Québec (Canada) from August 24 to 28, bringing together 286 scientists from 15 countries. The conference focused on current research into boreal and hemiboreal forests, their ecosystem diversity, management and environmental processes.
Scientists from the Latvian State Forest Research Institute 'Silava' — Agnese Anta Liepiņa, Diāna Jansone, Didzis Elferts and Toms Štāls — attended the Conference and presented three research posters featuring studies conducted at the institute.
The posters covered the following topics:
- Agnese Anta Liepiņa, Diāna Jansone, Didzis Elferts, Jānis Donis and Zane Lībiete: 20 Years Later: Retrospective Assessment of Vegetation Diversity Following Remnant Oak Release in Mixed Hemiboreal Forests;
- Diāna Jansone, Agnese Anta Liepiņa, Ilze Barone, Roberts Matisons, Kristaps Ozoliņš and Didzis Elferts: Shared or Distinct Biodiversity? Epiphytes and TreMs of Relict and Mature Oaks in Latvia (the Study was conducted as part of the project ForestBand);
- Toms Štāls, Zane Kļaviņa, Ivars Kļaviņš, Arta Bārdule and Zane Lībiete: Short-Term Water Quality Responses to Blue Infrastructure Objects in Drained Forest Catchments (the Study was carried out as part of the LIFE GoodWater IP project).
Participation in the conference provided an opportunity to present LSFRI 'Silava' research findings to an international scientific audience, learn about the latest developments in boreal and hemiboreal forest research, and establish and strengthen international scientific collaboration.
