As part of the research project Riparian forest management based on assessment of ecosystem services (RiForMa), Estonian forest owners visited Latvia on October 1–2 to learn about Latvian forest management practices and the latest scientific findings on the ecosystem services provided by riparian forests.
Scientists of LSFRI 'Silava', Raitis Rieksts-Riekstiņš, Valters Samariks, Oskars Krišāns and Dagnija Lazdiņa introduced the visitors to ecosystem service assessment methods using the LVM GEO platform, as well as research on the effects of wind damage on forest health, the role of water regimes in forest regeneration, and opportunities for establishing forests on reclaimed land.
The visit also included discussions on riparian forest management and nature conservation, highlighting the importance of sustainable forest management.

The activity was carried out within the RiForMa project with support from the Interreg Estonia-Latvia Programme.
