On October 14, the international seminar Remote sensing and ecosystem modelling for estimating GHG emissions from peatlands took place at the Cēsis Space Education Center. Aldis Butlers, researcher of Latvian State Forest Research Institute 'Silava' participated in the seminar, organized by the Institute for Environmental Solutions in cooperation with the partners of the LIFE PeatCarbon project. Experts from Latvia and other European countries shared their experience in using remote sensing technologies and ecosystem models to assess greenhouse gas emissions from peatlands.
Aldis Butlers presented the paper "From vegetation surveys and monthly chamber measurements to annual GHG balances: developing reference data for remote-sensing-based upscaling of near-natural, rewetted and degraded mires", focusing on data collection and its use in assessing peatland GHG balances.
Participation in such events promotes knowledge exchange and international cooperation in the development of new research methods.
